Match v LMRA and ULRC Sunday 6th May 2001
300 and 600 yards. Teams of 8
With Dominic Harvey and Peter Smith as coaches and backed up by John
Bellringer and Jon Underwood, I introduced 4 new firers to the team,
namely Alexandra Hakim, Susie Kent, Tom Spencer and John Tapster.
I was also pleased that we were joined, once again, by Sarah Kent
and by Andy Gent who shot as the reserve (and scored 99.7).
The conditions were cold with a fresh wind, slightly variable from
the east. On this occasion we were using Carmichael ammunition. At
300 yards, only 2 points were dropped and Andy Gent scored 49. At
600 yards it was more difficult and I noticed more lateral groups.
15 points were dropped at 600 yards.
Result: Highest Scorers
Surrey 783.90 Tom Spencer 100.15
John Tapster 100.13
LMRA 741.43 Lynne Johnson 97.6
ULRC not finished Matt Button 98.8
The result was very encouraging and I am pleased to welcome the 3
newcomers to the Surrey Association Squad for 2001

Match with London CRA Sunday 22nd April 2001
300, 500, 900 and 1000 yards
In cold conditions sometimes with sunshine, but at the end of the

was won by London CRA with a score of 1148.112 to our 1145.98.
With us the army TRC and Yorkshire CRA shot teams of 12 which London
also won with 2256.185 to Yorkshire 2201.172 and ATRC 2182.141. The

for Surrey with 193.20, Steve Robinson for Yorkshire with 189.19 and
John Dyas for the ATRC with 188.15. Toby Raincock was next highest
for Surrey with 190.16

Surrey Knockout Competition 2001 - Sunday 1st April
The opening Club competition of the season which
was shot at 600 yards on the first tolerably warm day of the year
with some light cloud and little wind welcomed for the first time,
a team from the Ibis RC who put in a creditable performance reaching
the semi finals of the Main competition with 105.13, the second highest
score of the day with Club 25 (A) achieving the highest score with
105 14. The competition, which develops into three separate mini competitions,
was frantic but enjoyed by all with many competitors meeting for the
first time this year. A few cobwebs where blown away, non-more so
than those on Ian Shaw's foresight! The Consolation competition, the
first of three keenly fought finals, was won by Old Epsomian (A) with
a score of 105.12. The Shield final following soon after was contested
by Old Epsomian (B) the eventual winners with 104.11 and Club 25(A)
worthy runners up with 101.8. Shooting concurrently, the Main Knockout
competition was an all Wandsworth affair with Wandsworth (D) 104.10
putting their (A) team, 103.13 to the sword. The full turnout of 16
teams boded well for the rest of the season with the Surrey League
just around the corner.
After the Match it was a long trek back to the Clubhouse
for the BBQ and pints of Hogs Back TEA, where the Secretary presented
the trophies and thanked the RO for his assistance in running a well-organised
and enjoyable shoot for all.
GD Hooton: Secretary.
Surrey County Full bore Rifle Team V Hertfordshire
& Stock Exchange RC Sunday 25th March 2001
We opened the season with our traditional match with
Hertfordshire to 'break the ice'. We met for lunch and were fortunate
that, this year, the weather was clement giving us the opportunity
for an enjoyable afternoon.
Shooting at 300 and 600 yards, we were joined by the Stock Exchange
Rifle Club for a two-way match finishing with tea in the Clubhouse
afterwards.
The results were wins for Surrey with 778.80 against
766.66 for Herts. And 586.61 against 558.40 with the Stock Exchange.
Highest scorers were Jeremy Thompson of Herts. 100.10,
Alastair Hill of Surrey, 100.9 and Nick Brazier for SERC, 99.13. Tim
Hammond and Rob Burch of Surrey also scored 99.13
JF Jackman: Captain of teams.
